Daily Planet - original plate Far more often than creating entire fictional worlds from scratch a matte painter is faced with repainting elements, expanding sets and seamlessly matching his painting to a photographed plate to create a believable, often photoreal illusion. In this selfpromotional exercise various elements in the plate were painted out and replaced by separately photographed and painted elements (the typewriter is actually that of my grandfather shot in a similar light situation). The expansion of the room was entirley created from scratch and the final composite regraded into a sepia color scheme.
