EOS Mars Program: Cargo Package Lander For delivering processing plants such as the Methane Synthesisers, Electrolytic Units or CO2 Liquifiers (as well as other cargoes). Transported to Mars orbit by IOT carrier from Earth orbit, the Moon, or Belt assembly plants. Shown with orbital positioning motors active. These are discarded after vehicle is correctly decelerated and orientated for atmospheric entry from high orbit. Heatshield protects payload through thermal transition phase. It is itself then discarded before internal motors are fired once to ensure distancing, and drogue braking is initiated. Accurate navigation controlled by GPS satellites, radio or laser beam ground beacon. Final arrival at surface is slowed by continuous retrofire, and landing legs fully extended to provide a shock-absorbent landing. Preparation (if gas synthesis equipment) involves removing external shields, folding out collapsible gantry, stairway and solar panels, and plumbing in to processing pipelines.
